Urbanpack Unboxing & First Impressions
The Cravar UrbanPack L arrives with all the hallmarks of a premium product. It’s packed in a branded cardboard box and protected inside a heavy-duty dust bag.
This version features Cravar’s “Fox” leather, a rich vegetable-tanned brown hide that looks and feels substantial. Every piece of hardware, including the rivets, buckles, and zippers, is solid brass. The brass warms up the leather tone nicely and gives the whole package a vintage yet purposeful vibe.
Cravar also includes a couple of small but thoughtful extras. Inside the backpack, I found a leather bifold cardholder and a riveted keychain, both made from the same Fox leather. These additions aren’t essential, but they do help complete the experience and reinforce Cravar’s attention to detail.
Cravar Backpack Design & Materials
Cravar sells several different backpack models.
The Workpack and Daypack are more utilitarian, while the UrbanPack (in size L or M) is clearly the refined option. Unlike the others, the Urbanpack is only available in full-grain leather. That choice alone signals that this is the premium model in their catalog.
And it does feel premium. The leather is thick and smooth with a matte finish, showing enough natural variation to avoid feeling overly processed. Stitching is clean and consistent. Most stress points are backed with internal lining or reinforced using solid brass rivets.
The bag also has a visual harmony. Oversized brass hardware sits against supple leather, creating a contrast that is both rustic and elegant. It’s like pairing a tailored jacket with work boots—unexpected, but it works.
The zippers are heavy and smooth, and the thick leather pulls are easy to grip. You can also lock the zippers together using a small padlock, which is a useful feature when traveling.
Inside, the bag is lined with Cravar’s signature red fabric. It adds color contrast and personality to the interior without being distracting. Leather trim pieces inside help tie it back to the exterior, making the whole design feel cohesive and polished.

Back “Laptop” Pocket
Functionality & Carrying Experience
Let’s talk about the one real challenge first: this backpack is stiff when new. The top flap, the straps, even the sides of the pack — everything needs a little time to loosen up.
In my case, the flap closure was hard to secure during the first few uses. I ended up using a screwdriver to stretch the strap holes slightly, which made a noticeable difference. Not an ideal solution, but it worked well and saved me some daily frustration.
The shoulder straps also require a break-in period. They’re thick, padded, and supportive but don’t immediately mold to your shoulders and back. After a week or so of regular use, though, they softened up and became much more comfortable.

Front Pocket Opens Flat
In terms of layout, the UrbanPack L is well designed. A padded laptop sleeve in the back of the main compartment is large enough to hold my work laptop, charger, mouse, and even a small (and slim!) portable monitor.

Large Zipper & Drop-In Pockets in Front
The larger front pocket opens completely flat, making it easy to pack. Inside that section, there’s a very large zippered pouch and two open drop-in pockets, which are great for quick-access items like cables or documents.
Travel Performance
I used the UrbanPack L as my ‘personal item’ on a recent flight to Nicaragua. It fit easily under the seat, carried all my gear, and turned a few heads along the way.
Most of all, I appreciated how it elevated the whole travel process. Air travel rarely feels special, but carrying a well-crafted leather bag makes it feel a little less routine. There’s satisfaction in using a product that looks good, feels durable, and clearly wasn’t mass-produced on the cheap.
This is the nicest travel backpack I’ve used to date, and one I’ll continue reaching for, especially as it wears in and the exterior leather develops patina.
Final Thoughts: Is the Cravar UrbanPack L Worth It?
The Cravar UrbanPack L is not an impulse buy. It takes time to break in, and it costs more than most synthetic or canvas backpacks. But for those who appreciate craftsmanship and want a leather bag that can age gracefully and perform well, it’s worth serious consideration.
The design feels intentional, the materials are top tier, and the details — from the red lining to the included accessories — reinforce that this is a product made by people who care about what they’re doing.
This isn’t the right backpack for every trip, every profession, or every user. But if you like the idea of carrying a luxurious backpack that improves over time and feels more personal the longer you own it, then the UrbanPack from Cravar absolutely delivers.
"Stiff at first, but once it breaks in, Cravar's UrbanPack becomes a travel or work companion you’ll never want to leave behind."
