The Nomatic company, like many a fledgling brand, first got its start in 2014 on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter.
Yet unlike many of the notorious campaigns on the platform that ended in tragedy, Nomatic has successfully delivered on 5 separate product campaigns and reached almost $10MM in funding.
This is no small feat. It also speaks loud and clear to the quality of every product, not just a single one, that Nomatic has conceived.
Today, we get the chance to judge for ourselves. I’ll be reviewing, in detail, three of the products that have helped Nomatic gain a reputation as the most functional gear in the world:

Nomatic Wallet Review (Black)
Alongside a couple of other accoutrement options such as a planner and varied travel accessories, Nomatic offers a slim and minimalistic wallet.
Style & Appearance
The Nomatic wallet is a very practical wallet for those who, like me, left bulky bi-fold wallets behind a long time ago. Its style is equally simple, though not adversely so.
In fact, at first glance, its shape can be slightly confounding. It is unlike anything I’ve ever called a wallet. Upon further inspection, though, its function is clear.
The entire wallet is constructed of a stretchy fabric intended to expand and tightly grip up to 15 cards. There’s also a small internal pocket for cash or coins, along with a special “slot” for the everyday cards, and the trademark pull-tab.
Familiar with the grit that wallets tend to collect, I chose to go with the black color though gray, red, and mint colors are also available. Uniform across all colors is the small piece of branded leather on the pull-tab which adds a bit of flair to the otherwise monochrome style.
Design & Formality
The design of the Nomatic wallet appears simple enough at first, though after close inspection it’s easy to garner an appreciation for the designer. The pull-tab feature is clever, useful, and uncomplicated.

Cards Displayed vs. Cards Stored
With a quick pluck of the tab, all of the cards are retrieved and displayed for use. Once you’re done, simply push them down back and into the sleeve. That’s it. The small pocket is just as easily accessed, though more fit for small amounts of cash or a key than for coins, as you won’t be able to fit very many of them.
On the topic of formality, it comes down to personal preference. As an everyday wallet, this Nomatic example works perfectly, as I generally prefer to travel light. It makes a quick task of using a card while also remaining inconspicuous in a pocket. On the other hand, it can also be seen as more casual than a leather wallet, if that’s something you’re concerned about.
Practicality & Size
The Nomatic wallet is intended to be minimal in size, a goal it achieves categorically. Of course, the experience will also depend on how many cards you generally carry around. If you’re one to lug 15 different cards in your pocket, then a slim wallet may just not be possible, no matter the style.

Nomatic Wallet Size In Hand
Overall, the silhouette of the wallet is a bit larger in each dimension than a credit card itself, yet still significantly smaller than most wallets. Undoubtedly, what’s lost of the “premium” of a nice leather wallet is gained here in convenience, making for a very sleek and practical wallet.
Nomatic Travel Backpack Review
The Travel Pack formed part of one of Nomatic’s successfully-funded Kickstarter campaigns, and remains one of the signature offerings of the brand.
Style & Appearance
The Nomatic Travel Backpack’s waterproof canvas construction is charcoal in color and looks very smooth, yet to the touch its ruggedness is evident. The zippers are completely covered, most of them essentially hidden from view, leaving only the dangling (and numerous) tabs from each. This makes for an uninterrupted silhouette and a very attractive look.
Other than these, there’s really very few patterns or branding, an aspect I certainly prefer. For a backpack designed with functionality in mind, the Travel Pack remains stylish, even with its minimal motif.
Design & Formality
The design is where the Nomatic Travel Pack shines. The initial experience of discovering all of the features of this backpack is very unique; it also emphatically communicates all of the thought that went into its design.
Every single pocket in every single compartment of the backpack has been thought through. There’s an RFID-safe pocket. There’s netted pockets for cables. There’s a sunglass case (included) pocket. There’s a fleece-lined pocket. There’s a water bottle pocket.
There’s pockets you didn’t even know you needed. But now that you know they’re possible, you may not be able to do without their convenience.
Externally, the design of the Travel Pack speaks not of its intricate functions, making for an unassuming look that would fit right at home in a professional office setting. Whether its size is appropriate for daily carry is what we discuss next.
Practicality & Size
The Travel Pack reviewed here is a slightly larger version of Nomatic’s Backpack, and is intended for 1-3 day trips. Though I haven’t yet had the chance, this Travel Pack will surely be put to the test on my next weekend getaway. In the meantime, it’s performed ideally in day-to-day use.
Indeed the Pack will easily fit a pair of shoes, along with various sets of clothes, and pretty much all of your other tech gear (laptop, tablets, etc…). It’ll do so comfortably, too, especially if the expansion zipper is opened.
But with the expansion zipper closed, it remains the same 20L size as the smaller Backpack. Admittedly, it’s on the larger side of backpacks, but not so large that it’s cumbersome.
Since the Travel Pack is not heavy at all and rather comfortable to wear due to the significant amount of padding, I found no issue whatsoever with its size. This point, too, will be one of personal preference and what you’re ultimately most comfortable with.

Travel Pack (“hidden” straps) size comparison vs 40L Travel Bag
At 5’11”, I also did not find it to look too big when on my back, though I am definitely a “backpack person”, and will gladly carry one on many errands or short trips. The fact that Nomatic’s bags are about as high-quality as you can get for the price only made it easier to bring mine along on most rides.
Nomatic Travel Bag 40L Review
If you’re going on a trip longer than three days, there’s plenty of things you’re going to need to pack without sacrificing the functionality and features of the smaller Travel Pack. The Travel Bag, in 30L or 40L sizes, is Nomatic’s solution.
Style & Appearance
The Travel Bag boasts the same waterproof construction and similar look as the Travel backpack, but in a significantly larger size. The front of the backpack touts a more resistant canvas fabric, as this surface also acts as the bottom of the bag when its being packed or hand-carried (like a Duffel bag).

Durable fabric on ‘bottom’ (When used as a Duffel bag)
Overall, this Travel Bag is shaped more like a large Duffel than a high-tech backpack, so any kind of daily commute use may qualify as overkill. That is, unless you actually require the 40L carry capacity every day, in which case, I think we’ve found the bag you’ve been looking for.
Design & Formality
The same amount of consideration encountered in the Travel Pack is also present in the Travel Bag along with some additional (and appropriate) features. Most notably, the backpack straps can be used as Duffel straps and quickly alternated as desired.
The bag also has a single large compartment with a full-perimeter zipper and various other secondary compartments on the flanks of the bag. One is specifically for shoes or dirty laundry, and stores an accessory laundry bag (included). Another one could store a second pair of shoes just as easily.
All of the same unique pockets from the Travel Pack are still present: two large pockets for a laptop and tablet, the plastic-lined bottle pocket, the fleece pocket for valubales, and lastly an RFID-safe pocket, likewise allowing one to keep everything perfectly organized even on the longer trips.
Practicality & Size
For a multi-week backpacking type of getaway, the Nomatic Travel Bag may just be the ideal choice. It’s perfectly sized to carry everything you need without leaving room for the inessentials.
But the true value, once more, lies in the design process and resulting practicality. With this bag, all of the individual pockets with specific uses essentially teach you a more efficient way of packing.
You don’t have to do the thinking – the bag does it for you. Where are you going to put your phone charger? in the cable pockets. What about the extra pair of shoes? obviously in the shoe compartment. And the wallet and cash? you can lock it within the RFID-safe zipper (lock included) and stop worrying about it.
At the end of the day, this is what makes or breaks great designs; how much they enhance they user’s life. With the Nomatic Travel Bag, there’s no question of its utility, the doubt is whether you’ll be able to put it to the test.

Nomatic: Presentation & Value for Money
The Nomatic Wallet, Travel Pack, and Travel Bag were all delivered within Nomatic-branded protective plastic bags, and were pretty much ready to go upon landing. The two bags had tags attached to them which contained diagrams of all the features, which I found to be a pleasing and creative touch.
As I mentioned before, it’s a bit of an adventure getting to know the Pack and Bag for the first time, and these “maps” came in handy.
As far as value for the money, I don’t think there’s any doubt about the quality of Nomatic products in general. Admittedly, I have yet to try them out for an extended period of time.
But after having inspected them scrupulously prior to putting together these reviews, as well as using them frequently over a 2 month period, I found no reason to lack confidence in their durability. The seams are clean with no loose threads. The zippers are buttery smooth. There’s no imperfections to be found. They simply feel like high-quality goods, even down to the wallet.
Closing Thoughts
If the quality is not under question, then the other component of value to contemplate is the frequency of use. For example, consider that the Travel Bag and Travel Pack last you for the next 10 years. In this case, you’d certainly have gotten your money’s worth for the price paid.
If you’re searching for a professional product that commands a higher price for its outstanding quality and sleek styling, then look no further than Nomatic’s options. If you’re not so concerned with the quality of your daily or vacation bag, then your best bet may be to look further down the quality (and price) spectrum for more accessible options.
"The quality of Nomatic's products is unquestionable. The amount of care and attention paid to every aspect of them is evident, and results in one of the highest-quality bags, and the most practical wallet, that I have encountered."Rating: 5.0 ★★★★★

Hey Terry,
Im glad you enjoyed the review! I was more than pleasantly surprised with the bags and haven’t stopped using the wallet (it’s my daily now). As a watch fan, I can appreciate when a lot of thought goes into the design of a product, and with Nomatic it is quite evident that they thought of everything.
If you’re looking for a bit more carrying capacity, I can definitely recommend the 30L or 40L bags like the one in this review.

The most important feature of this bag is that you can also adjust your shoes in a separate compartment and that is the thing that I love the most.
