Building on my previous reviews of the MoonSwatch watch series—Mission On Earth, Mission to Saturn, and Mission to Pluto—I now turn my attention to the popular Mission To The Moon watch.
While the other MoonSwatch models stand out for their colorful design, this Mission To The Moon has often been preferred because, given its steel-toned case and black face, it offers an aesthetic most like the original Omega Moonwatch.
As a seasoned watch collector, I’ve owned and reviewed many Omega watch models here on Bespoke Unit. Among these are a Seamaster Spectre that I still wear regularly and a Speedmaster 1957 (“Speedy 57”) that I wear less often.
Despite this, I’d never truly felt the allure of the Moonwatch. However, this changed when the MoonSwatch collection was released.
I knew I wanted a couple of these watches, and more specifically, I wanted this Mission To The Moon, as it would give me the closest experience to the real MoonWatch without shelling out thousands of dollars.

I’ve only had this Omega X Swatch MoonSwatch Mission To The Moon for a few months, so I’ll only be able to offer a relatively brief review of the watch and how it wears; I’ll do this further down in this review.
Before that, I’ll cover what’s included in the box set and the watch’s specific dimensions, which I’ve measured and pictured with calipers.
MoonSwatch Moon Box Set
I’ve covered most of this in my past reviews of MoonSwatches, but with this collection, I’ve found it’s always interesting to see how Swatch & Omega have differentiated the box sets from model to model. Structurally, they’re all the same, but there are some small differences corresponding to each model.
When it comes to this Mission To The Moon MoonSwatch, the box is black with a gray cardboard sleeve to match the case. This sleeve is inscribed with some quick facts about the Moon:
- Day temperature on the Moon can reach 127°; at night, -173°
- Temperature (avg): -23°C
- Takes 6 days to reach
- Has low gravity
- Has no atmosphere
When you remove the sleeve and open the box, you’ll find the watch wrapped around a cardboard cushion along with a couple of booklets.
One booklet features the entire MoonSwatch collection, while the other two are an instruction manual for the quartz chrono movement and a small warranty booklet; all these booklets or manuals are the exact same across the chronograph MoonSwatch collection.
Mission To Moon MoonSwatch Dimensions
Omega and Swatch are quite descriptive of the case dimensions on the Mission To The Moon product page. Yet, I’m always a bit skeptical as I’ve often found that watch manufacturers don’t always tell the truth when it comes to case size.
For this reason, I quite enjoy measuring and picturing the specific dimensions of a watch whenever I write up a watch review. This is no different with this Mission To The Moon.
When it comes to the case width, when measured to include the crown, the diameter of this MoonSwatch is 43mm. Without the crown, and measured slightly diagonally across the face of the watch, it’s 41mm.
Another important case specification for watches is the lug-to-lug measurement. This dimension will elucidate how much of you wrist the watch will take. When it comes to the Mission To The Moon, I measured this at 46.5mm.
Next is the case height, or case depth, or how tall the watch sits on your wrist. For this MoonSwatch, I measured it at the tallest point of the plastic crystal and found it to be 13mm.
Lastly, if you’re thinking of changing the Velcro strap that the watch comes with, you’ll want to note the strap size.
In this case, the dimension ‘between the lugs’ is 20mm, which is a rather standard strap size. If you don’t already have some aftermarket straps, you’ll undoubtedly be able to find some new ones online.
On-The-Wrist Review
The “steel gray” Bioceramic case, paired with the black dial and tachy bezel, are this MoonSwatch’s most standout features; indeed, they’re basically the only thing that differentiate it from the other MoonSwatches in the original collection.
As I alluded to earlier, this color scheme also makes it the watch version that most closely resembles the actual Omega Moonwatch. For this reason, it is slightly more desirable and, therefore, commands a higher price on reseller websites such as eBay. Aside from the aesthetic differences, it wears exactly like all other MoonSwatches.
Having already worn the Mission to Saturn, Pluto, and Earth MoonSwatch models, I’m quite familiar with this fit.
The watch is very comfortable on my wrist. I’d even argue that its size is perfect for it, as it does not stand too tall, nor do the lugs stick out past my wrist. I’ll mention here that the Velcro strap does make the watch feel broader on the wrist compared to a metal bracelet or NATO strap.
The original Moonwatch, constructed with metal—including the bracelet, case, and movement—would also feel substantially heftier. This heft often contributes to the sense of wearing a more premium timepiece.
Despite this, the Mission to the Moon remains a playful and accessible watch. It’s an excellent “training-wheels” watch for those who have never worn a genuine Moonwatch but are considering purchasing one.
Even outside these circumstances, the MoonSwatch models offer a lot of fun. However, I wouldn’t recommend paying aftermarket prices. Instead, it’s best to build a relationship with your local Swatch store to get the model you’re looking for.
This way, I think you’d get the most enjoyment out of this MoonSwatch (and any of the other ones), as I have.
"The Omega MoonSwatch Mission to the Moon combines the classic look of the original Moonwatch with the playful and accessible design of the MoonSwatch series, making it an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys timepieces."
