Overview
We’ve worn these boots for years and they have yet to let us down. Sorel’s classic duck boot can be found as for as little as $70. They’re lightweight, insulated and offer excellent waterproofing, which is perfect for running errands or commuting.
How To Wear
These are great occasional boots when you need to wear something that’s adapted for the winter. Whether you’re clearing the driveway or wearing them to the office, they’ll offer just the protection you need. As they’re quite casual, we like to leave a second pair of shoes at the office for when we arrive.
Best Colors
You can choose between black, tan and blue. In each case, the sole remains the same put it’s the upper that’s a different colour. We quite like the neutral yet colourful blue.

Overview
These solid walking boots from The North Face are a great budget choice. The brand is generally reliable and often presents good value for money. They’re ideal for winter thanks to their Dri-Lex fleece lining, TNF Winter Grip rubber outsole as well as a waterproof construction.
How To Wear
Perfect for the country and city alike, we’d turn to these when spending a good few hours outside during the winter. Whether you’re stomping down your town’s streets or enjoying a countryside stroll, they’re a great casual option.
Best Colors
Although there’s also a brown or black option, we’re particularly fond of the green thanks to its unique pop of tasteful olive colouring.

Overview
These solid walking-style blucher boots are very versatile yet offer just the right protection. Made from waterproof Buffalo leather, the seam-sealed waterproofing keeps your feet dry whilst 200B 3M Thinsulate insulation ensures that you stay warm.
How To Wear
More casual than regular walking boots, these don’t look out of place with regular wear. The soles offer excellent lugged grip but resemble typical blucher boots and the added cap toe and quarter details give them a distinctive look. These look great even with jeans and a warm sweater.
Best Colors
They’re available in charcoal, tan or black. Although we prefer the charcoal, the tan boots have a great distressed look about them. Meanwhile, the black is decent but will be harder to style with casual wear.

Overview
These boots are a unique marriage of the duck boot and walking boot whilst having a low profile reminiscent of chukkas. If you’re not a fan of big and heavy boots, they’re a great winter option. They also feature a lightweight EVA shell that can withstand -25°F / -32°C temperatures.
How To Wear
We find these to have a somewhat urban look, which is great for wearing in the city without looking out of place. They’re also much more convenient for commutes if you carry a second pair of shoes as they don’t take up too much space.
Best Colors
There’s a ganache brown, which features subtle green accents. However, we prefer the black as they seem more in line with urban styling.

Overview
These boots tastefully combine the practicality of walking boots whilst incorporating a blucher work boot aesthetic into their design. Fully waterproof, their construction uses a Goodyear welt, which is very impressive given the retail price of $100. There’s also a steel shank for stability and EVA footbed for comfort.
How To Wear
With its distressed full-grain leather upper, these are great casual boots to have handy. They’re both rugged and durable, which means that they can be worn for many hours and still keep giving. You can wear these with winter wear or throw on some jeans and a checked shirt and not look out of place.
Best Colors
Although only available in dark brown, we’re very fond of the chocolatey colour. The boots wear down very well thanks to the distressed suede-style aesthetic.

Overview
Ironically named the “Woodland”, these boots from renowned skate and snowboard brand DC are perfect for braving the city in winter. Featuring a stylish moc-toe finish and low profile, they also offer very cosy insulation with a textile lining.
How To Wear
These are perfect for milder winters where you want to keep your feet warm but don’t need heavy duty footwear. They look great with casual and urban wardrobes and would fit right in with jeans and a hoodie.
Best Colors
It’s a shame that these are only in black as a variety of other colours could have been great. However, the black is still very eye-catching and suits the boot style very well.
Do $100 Winter Boots Offer Good Value?
Whether it’s due to budget restrictions in simply that you live somewhere with a milder climate, you may not want to splash out on winter boots. Whilst we tend to argue that it’s important to reserve a decent budget in shoes in our other guides, it’s more understandable with winter boots.
Firstly, they’re seasonal footwear and won’t have to endure long-term wear throughout the year. In fact, then tend to be worn on and off for just a couple of weeks or sometimes a few months.
Nevertheless, cheaper footwear does tend not to last as long as more expensive ones due to the way corners are cut during the manufacturing process. After all, you need to find ways to lower costs in order to sell at lower prices.
As such, cheaper boots may last a couple of seasons but may need replacing sooner than you’d like.
Winter Boot Features Under $100
Firstly, winter boots aren’t necessarily waterproof unlike snow boots. Nevertheless, this is still a highly desirable trait as it tends to be a wet season. Furthermore, most winter boots offer some form of insulation. Again, this tends to be a general feature but not always the case.
However, you can almost always expect a robust sole that offers good traction for when you encounter slippery surfaces such as ice.
Nevertheless, with the exception of the DC Woodland, which we have yet to see how it performs, each of the boots featured above are full waterproof. They’re also all lined and offer great insulation.
We were actually surprised at some of the quality you could find with winter boots in comparison to dress boots. It would appear that it is indeed possible to find some decent quality at around $100!
However, that quality seems to fall off as you edge closer towards $70. Almost all of the boots featured are on the cusp of $100 and for good reason. Anything that was much cheaper tended not to be any good.
What really amazed us was that the Georgia Boot Brooksville actually has a Goodyear welt. This complex construction technique is very expensive and it’s the first piece of footwear outside of Samuel Windsor that we know offers a Goodyear welt at this price.
Drawbacks Of Budget Snow Boots
Although we were indeed impressed by the quality boots we managed to find, we’re also aware that in order to sell them under $100, the quality will never be quite as good as more premium boots.
Yet that doesn’t make them bad by any stretch but it’s important to be aware of the boots’ limitations. As said above, they’re ideal for a few seasons and milder winters. However, they won’t be able to withstand heavy-duty use in the long-term.
As such, we tend to consider winter boots at this price range ideal for occasional and mild use. This tends to cover things like running errands, working in the yard of commuting to work.
In the case of The North Face, their boots are also very good and perfectly usable for a hike or two depending on the intensity. However, we’d consider getting a new pair every few years.
