Review Of RK Fashion

Located right off the front road by the beach, RK Fashion is easily accessible for anyone staying in the tourist areas of Patong, Phuket.

The shop itself is modern and sleek. It has one of the largest square footage, and definitely the largest sign!

Initial Consultation / Design Work

Trevor [Bespoke Unit’s Travel Editor] was in need of a classic tuxedo for an event we were attending in Macau, only two weeks away!

Luckily, as with all the tailor shops we selected for our top 5 [and Thailand in general] the turnaround times are 3 – 5 days, so we were in no rush.

As he would not be wearing this bespoke tuxedo too often Trevor selected a high quality fine “super 180” fabric.

This fine weave would allow the fabric to drape extremely well, but it must be noted it has two major downsides:

1. More expensive than other fabric options
2. Not as long lasting as other fabric options

So may not be ideal for a navy blue suit you wear once a week for work, but is a nice luxury option for a tuxedo you may wear 1 – 5 times a year for example.

After selecting the fabric, it was time to get measured and make the design decisions. As he was going for the classic look, most of these are quite well pre-defined. He chose the peak lapel, as opposed to shawl. I personally think it a more formal masculine look for most gentleman, and overall more flattering for more body types.

Overall, from selecting fabric to getting measured and picking the final design aspects, we were in the shop for about 35 – 40 minutes on our first visit, but in no way felt pressured or rushed.

My one piece of advice for all the top 5 is don’t try to beat them too hard on price because competition is high and it’s already 50- 80% cheaper if you live in the USA or EU. I bring this up as there was one German guy while we were there who was literally screaming to get this and that for free! I inquired after he stormed out, and the shop assistant told me this happens all the time. These tailors are in business just like you have a job or own a business so respect their time and need to make some money to live.

First Fitting

Just the next evening we went back to the shop so Trevor could get his first fitting.

The fabric was stunning and it was already evident that it would be well worth the extra cost.

Overall there were only minimal changes needed.

Second Fitting

Two days after that we went back to the shop for the second fitting. This time he also tried on the custom tuxedo shirt.

The shirt was a touch loose, so needed to be taken in. This is common, as it’s easy to make garments smaller than to make them bigger, which would require a complete remake.

Final Fitting & Collecting Tuxedo

Just the next evening, the custom tuxedo was ready.

It was like a glove on his frame, which can be quite hard to do with the large drop [the difference between the chest and waist] he has, not to mention his large seat [also known as butt!].

Overall Thoughts Of The RK Fashion Process, People & Product

RK Fashion was a pleasure to deal with, fast turnaround time and low stress. Raj, the owner, was the nicest guy ever!

I’d recommend the shop to anyone looking for a good suit, shirt or tuxedo in Patong. The only downside I can note is that the bow tie offered in the tuxedo package Trevor bought was pretty low quality and pre-tied so he had to buy another when we got to Macau [but that’s small potatoes compared to how great everything else was].

Time & Number Of Fittings: There were two fittings after the initial consultation, taking 5 days in total. We were in no rush so this was fine. However, I think it can be done in as little as 3 days.

Service / People: Raj and all the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Options Both Fabric & Design Points: Nice selection of fabric, and if wanting to go a little more creative they have a ladies section so you can pick from those fabrics too!

Cost: Right in line with the other premium tailors we went to. Suits from $300 – $500 and up, depending on the quality of the fabric.

Quality Of Finished Garment: Overall the fit was spot on, and the finishing was above average. Not the best we had in our Patong tailoring tests, but in line with USA custom clothiers at less then half the price.

Total / Value For Money: Overall great value for money, with a very well oiled machine of an operation offering low stress and fast turnaround times.
