L’Eau Super Majeure d’Issey Composition
In the following section, we’ll evaluate and analyse L’Eau Super Majeure d’Issey’s individual notes and accords.
Head Notes
- Rosemary
- Clary Sage
- Lime
- Basil
L’Eau Super Majeure opens up with a classic aromatic and citrus accord. It starts with rosemary, which dissipates is replaced by clary sage, following lime and some very fresh basil.
Heart Notes
- Cashmeran
- Sea Salt
- Patchouli
Shortly afterwards, we quickly discover the heart of Issey Miyake’s I’Eau Super Majeure d’Issey. This part of the experience offers the most dominating note, which is cashmeran.
Cashmeran is an intriguing synthetic compound that is meant to smell like a combination of amber and wool. Specifically, it’s meant to smell like cashmere, which explains the name. Overall, it’s a very comforting note with a warm character that’s quite relaxing.
I find it to be very deep and alluring. Combined with the sea salt and the overall aquatic profile, as well as an earthy patchouli note, it made for a very tantalizing heart and an intriguing voyage, to say the least.
Base Notes
- Tonka Bean
- Vanilla
- Guaiacwood
- Sandalwood
Once you get into the base, you will notice that the cashmeran persists until tonka bean accompanies it, which adds a gourmand essence to the amber-wool accord. Additionally, there are also hints of guaiacwood and vanilla. Guaiacwood is a musky note with a pipe tobacco essence, which is softened by the vanilla.
We also have a touch of sandalwood. Overall, you will experience an intriguing bouquet of muskiness, which is accompanied by this ambery, wool, cashmere accord which is quite alluring. That being said, although this sounds very warm, it’s a surprisingly refreshing fragrance.
L’Eau Super Majeure d’Issey’s Life-Cycle, Wake & Strength
Overall, l’Eau Super Majeure d’Issey seems to perform reasonably well. While it’s longevity only persists for a few hours, it offers decent sillage and projection during that time.
The sillage, which is the trail left by the wearer when they move, doesn’t have a long reach but it’s effective at a close distance. Similarly, the scent bubble is focused close to the body, which makes this an overall intimate fragrances.
What People Think Of L’Eau Super Majeure d’Issey
With regards to the third-party feedback, people found this woody aquatic fragrance to be a bit too familiar and lacking in identity. I personally don’t agree with that comment. I find that the cashmeran and patchouli accord in particular really brings this out to be something quite exciting.
Somebody said that it was clean aquatic and very herbaceous and they quite liked it. Meanwhile, somebody said, that they feel like they’ve smelt it before, but they enjoyed wearing it anyway.
Generally speaking, this fragrance would tend to be more popular among women in their thirties or above. Women below their 30 thought it was okay, but nothing special.
With regards to men, nobody was overly enamoured by it. Nevertheless, men above their thirties as well seemed to enjoy this fragrance overall.
When To Wear L’Eau Super Majeure d’Issey
As I mentioned in the third party feedback, this was a fragrance that tended to be more popular among both men and women in their thirties and above. Sure, it could be worn by younger people and would probably be absolutely fine on somebody in their mid-twenties.
However, I think it would resonate best with people in the thirties age range.
Meanwhile, this is definitely a daytime fragrance. That being said, I think it would be quite pleasant worn in the early evening as the sun goes down, in the height of summer. After all, this is primarily a summer fragrance that could potentially be worn in late spring and early autumn.
As far as the usage or occasion is concerned, this is a very good office fragrance but it could be worn casually as well. Nevertheless, I would regard it as something that you could wear with a suit and tie when you’re going to work.
And finally, the masculinity on this isn’t overbearing. This is a fragrance with a nice general bouquet. It’s not cloying in any way. It’s not too virile, as the term goes, nor is it too mild. It’s a nice middle of the road fragrance.
Presentation & Value For Money
I love the bottle despite its ridiculously sized cap, which is actually almost the same size as the bottle itself! Nevertheless, I think it’s very stylish. It fits nicely in the hand. The bottle we reviewed was 50 ml in size. However, the larger 100 ml has a significantly smaller cap so it doesn’t become ridiculous!
The atomizer performs very well and it produces a clear, light mist that gently lands on the skin. It sprays a little bit too large to my taste. I prefer it when it’s a tiny little bit more focused. Nevertheless, this atomizer does perform well.
I quite like the packaging even if it’s a little basic. The box has a nice brushed metal effect with large Sans-Serif text that takes a fair bit of the real estate. Overall, it’s pretty understated, which is why it may be overlooked. However, it’s an elegant gift option too.
As for the value for money, L’Eau Super Majeure d’Issey offers a great bang for your buck. A full-sized 100 ml bottle costs around $42 on Amazon and other retailers. Meanwhile, you can find smaller, more affordable bottles and testers for around $30 on FragranceX!
Closing Thoughts
People will say, or have said that this fragrance has a long name but its smell is too familiar and it lacks personality. I wholeheartedly disagree and I feel that this is a fragrance that has a considerable amount of depth and a lot to offer.
I thoroughly enjoy the comfort provided by the cashmeran note and the way it interacts with the patchouli and the tonka bean. It creates this gourmand yet refreshing scent that is great for the summertime.
"An alluring combination of refreshing aquatic characteristics with a rich and comforting gourmand essence."
