In early 2019, I accepted an invite from Klaas Kelner, then of Davidoff Cigars, to visit the eponymous brand’s cigar factory in the Dominican Republic.
Following that unique experience, Bespoke Unit produced the most-watched cigar documentary on YouTube to date, titled From Seed To Smoke: A Cigar’s Odyssey.

Within its 95-minute runtime, the documentary also features exclusive interviews with Hendrik “Henke” Kelner and Eladio Diaz. The former having been the head of Tabadom, a cigar factory in Santiago, D.R., that has produced cigars for Davidoff since 1990, and the latter previously serving as one of the brand’s most accomplished blenders.

Klaas Kelner Announces Kelner Cigars
After departing his marketing role at Davidoff a couple of years back, Klaas Kelner has now publicly disclosed what has occupied his time, aside from his family, since then – Kelner Cigars, S.A.S.
The Kelner Cigars brand will leverage precisely what brought the Kelners comprehensive acclaim over the decades – a passion for quality in every cigar rolled. Yet, now it’ll do so under the direction of Klaas, the family’s 3rd generation, and under its own name.
In April of 2023, Kelner Cigars has officially inaugurated their new factory in Santiago de los Caballeros, D.R. Initially, Kelner Cigars aims to work with smaller cigar labels given their close-knit team of skilled cigar rollers. Perhaps considered a detriment by some, Klaas instead believes this focused approach to be an asset to ensuring the Kelner brand only creates the finest cigars in the world.

For now, the Kelner Cigars factory will only be producing private label cigars. They’ve yet to announce any of their own lines of cigars coming to market.
